| Leaving behind a highly successful career as a mechanic to undertake a year of full time university study was always going to be a risky move.
But for 36-year-old Russell Jaggard it was a chance he was willing to take to pursue the job of his dreams.
Russell is among St John Ambulance's newest recruits, who have completed a year of study at ECU and are about to start on-road ambulance duties to qualify as Ambulance Paramedics.
"Deciding to leave my paid employment to go to university for the first time to train as a Paramedic was certainly a big risk," says Russell.
"I was ready to do something completely different with my life, something I was passionate about and that really got me thinking again. "I can't wait to get out on the road."
The Bachelor of Science (Paramedical Science) course consists of a year's unpaid study at ECU followed by two years paid on the job training and study and a one year internship.
At the completion of this training students achieve the title of Ambulance Paramedic. |
