Indigenous entry

Australian Indigenous peoples can enter ECU using two specialised entry pathways, in addition to our other pathway options.

Indigenous Student Intake Test (ISIT)

ISIT is comprised of a supervised test and an interview; and was designed to create a non confronting experience.

  • A passing grade of 60% fulfils minimum admission requirements into undergraduate ECU courses.
  • A score of less that 60% may enable you to enter via the Indigenous University Orientation Course or alternative.
In this case, you will be counselled about entry pathway options.

Indigenous University Orientation Course (IUOC)

The IUOC is a bridging course which prepares Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders for entry to ECU.

Completion of the IUOC fulfils minimum admission requirements into undergraduate ECU courses.

Admission requirements

You must be an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and have fulfilled one of the following criteria in the last three years:

  • Sat TEE and did not pass, in year prior to study
  • Graduated from Year 12 with a WACE Certificate (or equivalent interstate or overseas) prior to year of study
  • Completed a TAFE Certificate III year prior to study
  • Have partially completed a pre-tertiary course at another University and are applying for the IUOC in consultation with the IUOC Coordinator.

If you successfully sat the TEE and are eligible to apply for an undergraduate course, but feel you need to gradually adjust to university level study before tackling an undergraduate level course, you can use the IUOC to aclimatise yourself to tertiary study.

If you do not meet any of the above, there is an IUOC Application Process you can complete to be considered for the course.

Need time to settle in?

If you successfully sat the TEE and are eligible to apply for an undergraduate course - but feel you need to gradually adjust to tertiary study - you can use the IUOC to acclimatise.
