Areas of strength include Alzheimer’s Disease Research and Care, Exercise, Sports Science and Rehabilitation Research, Health and Ageing, Child Health Promotion, Anti-Bullying and Preventative Health.
Outstanding career opportunities
Exercise, Biomedical & Health Sciences graduates have gained employment in a diverse range of careers, including the private, government and corporate sector.
Whether it be as a Strength and Conditioning Coach for a premium sporting club such as the West Coast Eagles or the Brisbane Broncos or working as a Clinical Trial Coordinator at the Lung Institute of Western Australia, the opportunities are endless.
Exclusive accreditation for exercise and sports science
Our undergraduate Exercise and Sports Science course has been accredited by the Australian Association for Exercise and Sports Science (AAESS).
It is now one of only three courses to gain full accreditation nationally by AAESS and is currently the only accredited course in Western Australia.
Students completing a Sports Science program at ECU have the option of doing a fourth year in rehabilitation. With this additional year of study you will qualify with a Bachelor of Science (Exercise Science and Rehabilitation), gaining accreditation as an ‘Exercise Physiologist’ through the AAESS.
Exercise, Biomedical & Health Sciences researcher on top of the world
Exercise, Biomedical & Health Sciences researcher, Associate Professor Paul Laursen, has been monitoring trekkers in the Mount Everest region of Nepal in conjunction with other ECU researchers, the University of British Columbia and the Mountain Medicine Society of Nepal.
Their aim is to determine whether experienced trekkers acclimatise more quickly than their inexperienced counterparts.
Dr Laursen says the trekkers are being fitted with blood oxygen sensors generously supplied by Vivometrics®. Dr Laursen says the project was initiated after it was observed that experienced trekkers found it easier to adapt to altitude following recent altitude exposure.
We hope this study will prove whether or not the body can ‘remember’ its adaptations and acclimatise faster during subsequent exposure, he says
